LIFE ON TITAN
If you are already familiar with stocking places like Downtown Components, Waterfront Booze, or Downtown Components, you already know what raw materials you need to feed your new production machinery. This page is a refresher with a twist.
It presents items you need to buy at an high-average cost, as opposed to a low one. These prices are better for calculating your finished products' selling price. In other words, you have to know what you've got invested in an item before you can calculate a price.
Below is a table of the prices used for raw materials on this page. It reflects a slightly higher than average price. You'll often find the raw materials listed below at a lower cost. You may have to offer a little more (in your Purchasing) to get traders to sell to you. And, there's always a chance of a shortage.
You also need to know what your competion is charging. The "Average Sale Price" in the tables below refers to the usual retail price your competiors are charging.
Distilling makes for profitable trading. Manufacturing Alcohol is even more profitable. The reason is that you only spend $75 for a unit of Alcohol you can resell for up to $500! Waterfront Booze must be rolling in cash. You can undersell them heavily and still double your money.
Buying the Narcotron allows you to make the biggest profit on Titan. You use only 1 Chemicals to make 8 Narcotics. Chemicals cost some $350 per unit. Each unit of Narcotics will sell readily for $1400. This is a per unit markup of more than $1300!!
The catch is that the Narcotron is rare. You'll have to do a lot of trading with Central Industrial to get them to make one.
We have Zero Cool to thank for discovering the Narcotics recipe, and Jim Kluza for finding the price of the Narcotron.
Ore processing gives you profits and your own source of Sheet Metal and ExMetal. If you go into components or munitions production, being able to make your own Sheet Metal and ExMetal is a big plus. All you need is Ore. The recipe is simple: 1 Ore can be processed into either 1 Sheet Metal or 1 ExMetal. Doubles your investment in Ore.
You can produce all of the weapons except cannons. Note that most of the weapons below are grouped -- (x10) or (x5). The pricing is for the group, not individual missiles. Also note that some missiles are only produced 2 groups at a time -- 2 FireBurst (x10). The prices for these reflect the totals for both groups.
Also note that there are some potential losers: UnderKills and Holograms. Make sure to buy your raw materials low and raise your price to what it takes to show a profit. Don't ever sell at a loss. It's better to load the stuff up and sell it to a retailer or trading post.
Sprats and Swarms can be made with only Sheet Metal and Explosives. More exotic missiles require a stock of: Sheet Metal, ExMetal, CompComp, MachParts, Explosives, and Gems. Specific "recipes" for specific missiles are in the table below.
Sprat and Swarm note: These two missiles are extremely profitable. Their margins aren't that great, but they only take SheetMetal and Explosives to produce. And, they are very popular. Top this off with the fact that the game suffers a Sprat shortage from around Day 3 onward. They're a goldmine. I sell 'em for $3200. Make sure your repair droids are on so you can fit them for your customers. You make money with that, too.
Making components is not only a good money maker, but helps you supply Downtown Moths and Central Industrial for exotic Moths and machinery.
Pay special attention the amounts produced below. The totals refer to the total production -- 3 CompComp, 2 Cell #3. The overall raw materials you need for full component production is: Chemicals, Pure Water, Gems, Plastics, Sheet Metal, ExMetal. Specific "recipes" below:
